Its marked by cheerful music & dancing that finishes off with the parades on Mardi Gras. Panama City, Penonome & Las Tablas are the major cities of the grand celebrations. The Easter Week is celebrated throughout Panama as Semana Santa. Most communities hold holy pageants on Good Fridays & Easter Sundays. Officially dry days are observed from 12 noon on Thursday to 12 noon on Sunday. Villa de Los Santos, on the Península de Azuero is particularly well known for its celebrations. The Festival of the Black Christ at Portobelo on October 21 comprises a procession of the celebrated life-sized statue of the Black Christ, and draws pilgrims from all over the country. |
